ARDELT Kranbau delivers two shipyard cranes to Canada – A new chapter for the highly specialized medium-sized company from Germany
Eberswalde, September 2025 – ARDELT Kranbau GmbH, a long-established specialist for harbor and shipyard cranes, has been awarded two major contracts in Canada. One modern shipyard crane will be installed on the east coast in Halifax and one on the west coast in Esquimalt. This milestone marks ARDELT’s return to the North American market for the first time since its re-establishment in 2023.
The two cranes each have a radius of around 65 meters and are tailored to the demanding tasks in shipbuilding and ship handling. ARDELT proves that both the rated single and double jib systems are in demand for precision work in ports. Both solutions are characterized by a load capacity of over 20 tonnes, maximum precision, best-in-class reliability and the ability to meet highly specific customer requirements. As proven, ARDELT relies on premium technology from European component suppliers and a high level of vertical integration with core competencies along the entire value chain. ARDELT cranes are regarded as premium solutions in the industry and ARDELT will now be able to make key contributions to the efficiency of the Canadian shipyard infrastructure in the future with the contracts awarded in Canada.
“With this project, we are not only writing a new chapter in our company history, but we are also drawing on proven strengths,” explains Uwe Grünhagen, Managing Partner of ARDELT. “In this way, we are demonstrating our commitment to Germany as a manufacturing location and, as a reliable partner for complex crane solutions, proving that German engineering skills are still in demand worldwide.”
Both cranes are scheduled for delivery by Q1 2027.
ARDELT looks back on a history that began in Eberswalde in 1902 and has taken the company through many eras of industrial history. Today, the name stands for innovation, maximum energy efficiency and customized solutions for ports, shipyards and heavy industry. With the realization of the Canadian shipyard cranes, ARDELT is once again underlining its ambition to continue growing internationally and at the same time to carry the values of the “Made in Germany” brand into the future.
